History

We have an incredibly rich history as a church and as a ministry. Here is a summary of some of the key events that have brought us to where we are today.

A small prayer group consisting of college students and members of the community is incorporated as Living Faith Fellowship by four co-founders, which include Dr. and Mrs. Barden.

Pullman Christian School begins with four students. Home Care Groups begin to meet every other Sunday evening.

Due to lack of space, the swimming pool of Pastor Karl & Sherri is covered so that 100 extra seats can be made available. Crowding makes a search for land a necessity. The first year of Bible Foundations classes begins.

Approximately four acres of land are purchased on which to build a new church. For 90 days the members of the church work nights and weekends six days per week to build their first permanent facility (now known as the Family Center).

Phil Vance begins what will later become known as Campus Christian Fellowship on the Washington State University and University of Idaho campuses. Bible studies are started that fall.

After a two-year delay, the City Board of Adjustment approves the building of a multi-purpose addition to the original church building. Construction begins and continues. Phil and Kari Vance are ordained as pastors.

Pastor Karl leaves family dental practice to concentrate all his efforts on serving the church in the capacity in which he has already served for ten years, as senior pastor. The first Heartbeat Retreat (the predecessor to Big Weekend) is held at Camp Sanders.

The first “Maturity in Relationships: Reaction or Response” (MIRROR) class, based on biblical counseling principles, is taught by Pastor Sherri Barden.

The JCD Company, a discipleship program for mentoring and training students while they are in college, begins.

Going for the Gold (predecessor to The Carpenter Series) begins teaching the foundations of Christianity and Christian living.

After several years of holding separate meetings on each campus, CCF is combined into a single large-group meeting on Friday nights.

After five years of planning, the people of Living Faith once again give of their evenings and weekends to build the new Worship Center facility. The church and CCF move into the new auditorium. The first Big Weekend retreat is held at Camp Grizzly.

The annual winter outing “CCF on Ice” begins.

Joe Fitzgerald is ordained for campus ministry.

Pastors Phil & Kari Vance are installed as senior pastors of Living Faith Fellowship following the Barden’s retirement. Pastor Joe is installed as full time campus pastor.

CCF moves to its new home in the Family Center chapel.

The first CCF Spring Leadership Retreat is held on the Oregon Coast. Big Weekend becomes an overnight retreat, and moves to Riverpoint Camp. The Carpenter Series begins.

After 28 years of discipleship through Home Care Groups, free-market small groups are introduced, expanding the outreach potential of the church and CCF. The Family Center chapel is given an upgrade by Team CCF and nicknamed the “Upper Room.”

Fifty students perform an Extreme Makeover (Church Edition) on the historic Assembly of God Church in Asotin, WA as part of the annual Spring Leadership Retreat.
